Se há livros que nos transportam até à infância e até ao verão, «The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn», de Mark Twain, é por certo um deles.

Referência maior da literatura norte-americana, Mark Twain conta-nos desenxovalhadamente no linguajar da época as histórias de um garoto, Huckleberry Finn, e um escravo foragido, Jim, que se torna seu amigo. Estamos no delta do Mississippi momentos antes da guerra civil. Tom Sawyer e Huck estão ricos na sequência de aventuras passadas. Mas se antes a busca tinha sido ao tesouro, agora tratar-se-á de liberdade.

It was kind of solemn, drifting down the big, still river, laying on our backs looking up at the stars, and we didn't ever feel like talking loud, and it warn't often that we laughed, only a little kind of a low chuckle. David Lynch é a sugestão da fotógrafa e designer Gisela Francisco para as próximas emissões do Livro de Cabeceira. "Catching the Big Fish" é uma apresentação que o artista faz, em 2006, da forma como desenvolve ideias e usa a meditação trascendental desde os anos 70. A procura da prova de conceito artística é acompanhada neste livro por criações como Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, Blue Velvet, Industrial Symphony No.1, Twin Peaks, Lost Highway, The Straight Story, Mulholland Drive e Inland Empire.

Respondendo ao convite lançado pelo Quebra Costas, José Braga propõe a leitura de partes de "Exercícios de Estilo" de Raymond Queneau. O livro consiste na apresentação de 99 textos em formas estilísticas diferentes que relatam o mesmo acontecimento presenciado numa paragem de autocarro. Um fait-divers serve de pretexto para 99 exercícios brincalhões, ou não tivesse Raymond Queneau fundado, em 1960, a Oulipo (OUvroir de LIttérature POtentielle): um movimento que junta literatura, matemática, patafísica e algo mais num conceptual caldo de hortelã (não confundir com afã conventual). Com Raymond Queneau entranha-se melhor o poster «A Matemática é Divertida» estranhamente afixado na Sala Gomes Teixeira do Departamento de Matemática da UC. Na Sala Jaime Carvalho e Silva ainda se compreendia...

"Howl" - um grito contra o materialismo na América dos anos 50 - é o seu poema mais conhecido. Irwin Allen Ginsberg, arauto da Beat Generation, é a recordação de viagem de férias que o ouvinte Paulo Sebastião traz a esta emissão de Livro de Cabeceira. Nascido no seio de uma família judaica comunista, Ginsberg tornou-se um artista, pensador, activista e uma das vozes mais enérgicas do século XX. É hoje ainda uma das vozes mais conhecidas globalmente.
